In July 2014, The Arc Central Chesapeake Region launched an employment initiative in partnership with the United States Naval Academy.  Kelly Adams joined the program as an intern to develop workplace skills with the goal of successful employment in her community, ultimately earning a job at the Naval Academy.

Kelly was embraced by her USNA colleagues from the moment she started. “The opportunities she has been given by the Naval Academy have helped to develop her self-confidence and communication skills, and provided her with an overall sense of belonging to a community,” said former program manager, Julie Humble.

Looking at the astronaut figurine on the window sill, you would think Danny ordered it from one of the collector’s catalogs on his desk. “It’s funny that,” he said.  “I went to buy it, and they told me they didn’t have it.  I was like, oh man.  So I made it.”

That’s how many of his masterpieces are born. “I just see it, and then I build it,” he said shrugging. “I get a lot of my ideas from pictures. Sometimes in catalogs, or from books.” He points to the locomotive catalog and the partially completed steam engine on his desk. “I want to make a hundred trains. That’s one of my goals. The Arc Central Chesapeake Region (Arc CCR) is pleased to announce that Jonathon Rondeau has been selected to serve as Chief Executive Officer starting July 12.

The Arc of the Central Chesapeake Region Board of Directors announces the appointment of Allen Hatton as the new interim executive director. Hatton is following Kate Rollason who is retiring at the end of September. Allen will hold the position approximately 9 months while the Board prepares for and launches a search for Kate’s successor. The Board has named a Sustainability Committee to oversee the search process and has hired the firm Raffa, PC to conduct the transition and search activities. Continue reading

Long time executive director of The Arc Central Chesapeake Region, Kate Rollason, is retiring from her position as of September 30, 2016.  She has served as Executive Director for over 18 years.

To say that Rollason is a maverick in the world of intellectual and developmental disability is a bit of an understatement. From the moment she graduated from college she challenged stereotypes, immersed herself in advocacy and dedicated herself to fulfilling the promise she made to herself and others to fight discrimination against those with disabilities and other conditions.Continue reading
